Hee pracoval v letech 1935-36 v Leon Schlesinger Productions jako návrhář postav. Navrhl mnoho karikatur celebrit použitých v The Coo Coo Nut Grove (1936) a The Woods Are Full of Cuckoos (1937). Vánoční přání z roku 1936, které nakreslil, s karikaturami Schlesingerových animátorů, bylo použito k návrhu gremlinů v roce 1944 v animované krátké Ruské rapsodii.
Hee nastoupil do Walt Disney Company kolem roku 1937. Nejvíce je uznáván za režii segmentu Fantazie Tanec hodin. Po stávce odešel, ale dvakrát se tam vrátil pracovat, od roku 1940 do roku 1946 a znovu od roku 1958 do roku 1961. Hee také pracoval pro United Productions of America (1951 až 1958) a Terrytoons (1961 až 1963).
Hee byl spolu s Jackem Hannahem jedním ze spoluzakladatelů programu Character Animation na California Institute of the Arts. Později působil jako předseda oddělení filmového umění.
